Hardware Sustaining Engineer

Job Summary
Storage Hardware Sustaining Engineer: Responsible for networked storage systems and related hardware support post-development. Works with ODM/contract manufacturer/production operations, customer service support, and commodity management to sustain products and provide Failure Analysis support after development and release phase; provides analysis of product quality/reliability performance based on factory and field data; evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production; provides troubleshooting and corrective action support to include design development activities.

- A strong understanding of complex concepts related to architecture, design engineering, reliability, prototyping and failure analysis
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards
- Strong aptitude for learning new technologies
- Ability to follow standard engineering principles and practices
- Resourceful in applying creative ideas to solve problems.
- The tasks this individual is responsible for are often non-routine and unstructured, requiring creative solutions with more interdependencies and with processes that are less defined
- This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving routine to moderately complex problems.
- This individual must work effectively with staff to senior manager level employees within the function and the technical team on assigned projects.
- There may be communication with employees in other functions within the Business Units as required
- Limited management direction is provided to employee on new projects or assignment; as well as review of activities and priorities
- The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert on team projects
- To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through coaching and influencing others
- This individual is able to successfully convey information to stakeholders at many levels related to the position
- Required to work independently.
- This individual shall work to lead individual sustaining projects that may require: scheduling, planning, cross functional interaction, updating a larger team, etc. These tasks/projects can be as extensive as several months or as minimal as a few days
- Leadership is a desired quality.
Responsibility:

Education:
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
- Must Speak English fluently.
