THE ROLE:
As the Client (Desktop, Laptop, Workstation) Platform System Engineer you will work with various internal engineering teams from end to end and play the role to put forward the customer’s needs and essential functionality in the early stages of product as well as drive generation to generation customer experience improvements. Position requires an unusual mix of technical breadth, problem solving, and soft skills. The systems engineer will also work through each phase of the given system and process, from plan along with expansion to validation and operation, on measurable risk assessment, regularly concentrating on performance, testing, and evaluation for the development of design to make sure system design meets criteria. Successful System Engineer drives design to fulfill stakeholder’s requirement for the best output.
THE PERSON:
• Familiar with: general Computer Architecture concepts and silicon features; Microsoft Operating Systems, Linux Operating Systems, virtualization software (VMware, Xen, et al), and validation/certification processes for each of these environments; system component compatibility; high performance client IO adapters, drivers; stress testing
• Demonstrated ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills and pronounced attention to details
• Self-starter, strong collaborator, and able to independently drive tasks to completion, especially those with high ambiguity
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan collaborative sub teams focused around preventing issues in high risk areas
• Collect the customer voice/expectation on product feature to improve customer experience
• Gain technical knowledge by participating in various internal and cross-functional technical initiatives, bring-up, reviews, etc.
• Working with cross functional teams to identify customer requirements to influence the product definition and availability
• Driving the E2E platform optimization process and ensure OEM/ODM system design is architecturally optimized.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• Systems breadth - CPU, chipset, boards, options, peripherals, OS, BIOS, drivers; Sufficient exposure to system features
• Speaks SW not just HW - Able to function within BIOS, Drivers, Silicon, IO subsystems, power, thermal, OS certification
• Platform experience across configurations, definitions, and integrations including: system bill of materials (BOM) definition and definition of validation, test, and reference platforms
• Works across groups (Performance, BIOS, Debug, Quality, etc.) to gain convergence on technical decisions
• Prior experience with: client PC/NB and relevant system design and validation; testing tools and environments, defect tracking and revision control
