Principal Power Integrity Engineer

What you'll do

Provide power integrity technical leadership for Ampere's server products, which incorporate high TDP multi-core processor CPU/SOCs, requiring co-design of silicon, package, and PCB.
Provide cross-functional leadership to define and deliver the power integrity specifications for Ampere's server processor-based motherboards, by working with Ampere's platform architecture, motherboard electrical design, signal integrity, power integrity, package design, package substrate design, platform mechanical, and product marketing teams; and with external partners including ODM/CMs for Ampere's silicon validation & customer reference platforms, and with Tier-1 ODM/CM Customers.
Design/simulate/validate high-performance power-delivery solutions that achieve robust end-to-end power integrity performance.
Work with Ampere's PI teams to optimize PCB parameters that impact power integrity performance.
Work with product engineers to develop system-level power integrity specifications. Develop post-silicon PI test plans and methodologies to help simulate, validate, and characterize system-level design implementations to ensure compliance to these specifications.
Lead formal cross-functional design reviews.
Create technical collaterals to deliver training & knowledge transfer internally to Ampere's PCB design and Application Engineering teams, and externally to Ampere's key Tier-1 Customers, including motherboard layout guidelines and PI simulation/test documentation.
Work with external partners, providing engineering support to ensure successful PCB board builds for Ampere's silicon validation platforms and Customer Reference platforms, and for Ampere's key Tier-1 Customers.
Lead formal cross-functional PI design reviews, providing feedback to design teams to improve overall design.
Support Ampere's motherboard and SOC bring-up activities, including debugging, validation, and root cause failure analysis for PI sightings.

What you'll bring
Minimum of 10 years of server, datacenter, client/mobile, or high-performance computing power integrity experience across multiple full product life cycles, from concept to mass production.
Extensive experience designing high-performance power-delivery solutions, including AC/DC & DC/DC power delivery.
Extensive expertise in power integrity analysis methods with in-depth understanding of key simulation methodologies and concepts, including time domain, frequency domain, and statistical analysis, etc.
In-depth knowledge of power delivery network architectures and optimization techniques for die, package, and PCB board.
Good working knowledge of electromagnetic theory related to power integrity.
Ability to create and simulate 3D models in tools like HFSS, PowerSI, and PowerDC.
Good understanding of PCB stackup manufacturing process and design limitations considering DFM, including optimization of layer stackup and power plane assignment to minimize PDN impedance and voltage noise.
Experience creating motherboard layout guidelines and PI simulation/test documentation.
Experience developing post-silicon PI test plans and methodologies to help simulate, validate, and characterize system-level design implementations to ensure PI compliance.
Hands-on experience in motherboard prototype bring-up and debugging.
Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as mixed-signal oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal analyzers, network analyzers, protocol analyzers, signal generators, VNA, TDR, Oscilloscope, VRTT …etc.
Hands-on experience performing simultaneous switching noise analysis for memory & HSIO interfaces.
Experience with both large body-size electronic packages and high-performance PCBs is a plus.
Strong, effective communication skills and leadership with customers, stakeholders, and colleagues.
Good English communications skills, both verbal and written.

Education
BS/MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering/Electronics/Computer Science/Physics or similar discipline
