Job Summary
We are looking for a **Motor Development Engineer** with expertise in both **conventional motors** (e.g., brushed/brushless DC, stepper, servo motors) and **direct drive motors** (DD motors) for high-precision applications. The ideal candidate will lead the design, simulation, prototyping, and validation of motor systems for integration into electromechanical products.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop various types of electric motors, including BLDC, stepper, servo, and direct drive motors
* Develop torque-speed curves, efficiency maps, and performance testing protocols
* Select appropriate materials for rotors, stators, magnets, and insulation systems
* Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and embedded software teams for system integration
* Work with PCB and inverter teams to ensure proper motor drive compatibility
* Conduct root cause analysis and implement design improvements based on test results
* Support motor manufacturing and provide technical guidance to suppliers
* Generate technical documentation: specifications, test plans, simulation reports, BOMs
* Evaluate new technologies such as coreless motors, linear motors, and high-efficiency winding techniques
* Stay up to date with global motor industry trends, standards, and emerging designs
Requirements
* 3+ years of experience in electric motor design and development (both conventional and direct drive preferred)
* Solid understanding of motor theory: magnetic circuits, torque generation, back-EMF, cogging torque
* Hands-on experience with FEA tools for motor analysis (ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, etc.)
* Familiarity with control strategies (FOC, PID, vector control) and motor driver ICs
* Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes related to motor winding, stator laminations, and rotor assembly
* Ability to interpret schematics, mechanical drawings, and tolerance stack-ups
---
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in precision positioning systems or robotics (e.g., gimbals, CMMs, CNCs)
* Experience with encoder integration, backlash elimination, and resonance control in DD systems
* Knowledge of international standards (IEC, UL, ISO 9001, etc.) related to motor design
* Familiarity with thermal management and noise reduction techniques
* Prior involvement in developing motors for military, aerospace, medical, or industrial automation sectors
Work Conditions
* May require travel to suppliers, test labs, or production sites
* Occasional hands-on work in lab or factory environment with test equipment
* Cross-functional collaboration with international teams or clients
