We are seeking a School Counsellor on a fixed-term basis, covering maternity leave from 12 August 2024- 31 December 2024. The School Counsellor will be a member of the teaching staff, delivering counselling support for children and to take a lead in the promotion of emotional resilience and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
To offer students individual counselling and support
To work with a diverse range of issues including anxiety, fears, anger management, depression, peer pressure, bereavement and loss, and abuse of any kind.
To use appropriate assessments to identify needs and to establish support plans.
To contribute to the wellbeing promotion programme - including welcoming activities, in class lessons; assemblies
To develop strategies for promoting socio-emotional skills.
Work with small groups as needed. For example, social skills groups
To create links with the Secondary and High School counselling services to provide a continuity of experiences for students
To remain current in the practice and delivery of counselling
Membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or equivalent.
To provide information on the counselling service and the role of the counsellor to students, staff and parents
To network and liaise with personnel from other agencies with a view to easing referrals and accessing specialist consultants
To lead parent workshops on counselling related topics
Continuous Professional Development
To remain current in the practice and delivery of counselling
Membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy or equivalent.
Community Support
To provide information on the counselling service and the role of the counsellor to students, staff and parents
To network and liaise with personnel from other agencies with a view to easing referrals and accessing specialist consultants
To lead parent workshops on counselling related topics
Collegial Support
To provide consultation to staff
To liaise with the Individual Student Support team
To liaise with parents, where appropriate
To keep suitable, secure case records
To report back on a regular basis on numbers using the service and give a general overview of the types of problems with which the users of the service are presenting
To review and evaluate the service provided
To liaise with the school safeguarding team and Government Agencies ensuring child protection issues are reported when necessary
To complete any reasonable task asked of you in line with your post of responsibility by the line manager.
