Company Background
We are looking for a Senior Robotics Architect to lead the design, development, and deployment of industrial robotic systems. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in robotics architecture, autonomous systems, AI/ML, and mapping/path generation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical strategies, optimize performance, and drive innovation in robotics solutions.
Paintjet (Forman Technologies) develops robotic solutions for autonomous painting of commercial buildings, ships (marine), and industrial oil storage tanks. We are headquartered in the United States, and have regional offices in Arizona, Texas, and Virginia. Our R&D center, however, is located in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
While initially this will be an individual contributor role, you will directly manage a small team of robotic SW and FW engineers. You will report directly to the CTO. Due to the frequent communication with USA-based leadership, English language proficiency is required.
The base salary for this position will be $225,000/month or greater (based upon experience). A signing bonus may also be available (based upon experience).
You will be directly responsible for the timely development, testing, and delivery of reliable robotic systems that will automate the surface treatment, priming, and painting of API crude oil storage tanks (up to 5M litres in volume) located in the USA.
Interviews may be conducted entirely in English.
Native-level Mandarin fluency, and household registration, is also required.
Key Responsibilities:
-Provide the vision for our SW roadmap and framework.
-Define and implement architecture for robotics software systems.
-Develop and optimize arm/manipulation calibration solutions for semi-automous industrial systems weighing in excess of 10,000Kg.
-Develop and optimize motion planning, perception, and control algorithms for complex industrial environments (such as crude oil tank farms) and construction sites.
-Conduct code reviews, optimize performance, and debug robotic software.
-To enable efficient SW integration, collaborate with cross-functional teams of hardware engineers and project managers.
-Mentor and guide junior software engineers to enhance team capabilities.
-Identify key talent to grow our organization.
-Ensure compliance with best practices in software engineering, including version control(git), CI/CD, and documentation.
Qualifications (Musts):
- 7+ years robotic SW development experience, this is a MUST requirement.
- 15+ years of experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or AI-driven automation.
- Master’s/PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Expertise managing a small team of SW and FW developers.
- Superior working knowledge of ROS/ROS2 frameworks.
- Expertise in robotics middleware, control systems, perception, and motion planning.
- Strong programming skills in C++, Python, and embedded development (RTOS, FPGA, microcontrollers).
- Experience with SLAM, computer vision (OpenCV, TensorFlow), and sensor fusion (LiDAR, IMU, cameras).
- Proficiency in simulation tools (such as Gazebo and PyBullet)
- Advanced written and verbal English language proficiency.
- Must be able to occasionally travel internationally (<10%, within the USA)
- Must be able to travel domestically within Taiwan (<15%) to support local product testing and deployment.
Qualifications (Wants):
-Hands-on experience with robotic hardware (ME/EE), actuator/motor control, sensors, etc.
-Familiarity of cybersecurity and hardening (ISO/IEC 62443) of critical systems for industrial automations and control systems.
Additional Benefits:
- 13th month bonus.
- $3000/month meal allowance
- Phone reimbursement allowance.
