Authorized and responsible to perform all duties in accordance with BDEL Quality, Safety and Employee Policies and procedures:
• Due to their proximity to key vendors, may support critical projects by supporting vendors, ensuring instructions and deliverables are clear, and articulating challenges and delays back to the design team.
• Responsible for providing consultation, insight, and supporting data for constructions, materials, and factory capabilities related to a proposed design concept.
• Responsible for coordinating finished product development, and manufacturing integration from design into bulk production. This may include oversight of all sales samples production to ensure alignment with Black Diamond’s documentation relating to the applicable products.
• Authorized and responsible to provide development timeline status and task assignments through various project management delivery systems (ERP system, design team meetings, etc)
• Responsible for the creation, proper and timely maintenance of all required development documentation as specified by the Dir of Product Development or relevant manager.
• Consistently seeks out new technologies, bring them to the BD Design teams for future projects. This may require attending local trade shows, new vendors, or pushing existing vendors to adopt novel manufacturing methods that provide a competitive advantage to BD and its customers.
• Strategic Supplier/Vendor Management - Working in close alignment with the Product side of the business and Supply Chain, the Product Development Engineer will actively participate in discovering, qualifying and managing relationships with Black Diamond’s strategic vendor base. These responsibilities include:
o Understanding the sorts of vendor capabilities that are needed to bring to market innovative BD designs in the lowest cost manner possible
o Managing this vendor base to assure adherence to all requirements established in BD’s Vendor Guide
o Aligning vendor capacities with customer demand
o Seeking to expand the vendor base to support demand growth
o Establishing seasonal costing parameters and negotiating costing for in-line product
o Conducting semi-annual vendor reviews
Purpose of Position:
Serves as the customer’s primary technical point of contact and ensures their overall satisfaction with the products, services, and technical support provided by Corning
Key Responsibilities:
【Customer issue resolution】
• Identify and define problem clearly to differentiate facts from opinions
Deliver solutions to resolve issues promptly, execute and monitor recovery actions until closure with desired results
• Identify customer returned issues and clarify the responsibility for approval of compensation
• Resolve, clarify and suggest disposition of returns for manufacturing and quality action
• Set up priority, track and follow-up until the issues are resolved
• Present customer issues to Corning internal Engineering and Quality review; report • Corning investigations to customer MFG and Quality
【Corning's product and value delivery】
• Identify overall / product trend / technology trend / needs in glass with customers
Promote Corning's technology advantages and capabilities and prioritize these advantages according to customer requirements and concerns
• Develop and document through understanding of customers’ processes from a product design development and manufacturing perspective
• Lead model design in qualification process at customer side
• Work with CT/ENG. for model analysis and rational spec setting
• Find out engineering technical support resources and develop communication channels between Corning and assigned customers
• Coordinate customer quality & technical audit and customer visit
• Lead customer and Corning resources to achieve R&D and MFG joint project target
