Purpose of the Position: Manage mold operations and develop mold cost, quality, asset effectiveness, delivery, safety, morale, innovation targets to meet global customer request and to achieve mold manufacturing excellence. Day to Day Responsibilities: • Champion process control and change management efforts to adapt to upstream and downstream operations changes, drive improvement to process capability and mitigate resultant process variation in own department. • Provide supervision to section supervisors, team leaders, technicians and engineers, including effective management of key resources and overall talent management objectives. • Communicate and report department progress to plant staff, division leadership and Manufacturing Effectiveness Council (MEC). • Build and maintain close relationships with other operations departments to share and receive feedback on upstream and downstream operations (e.g., anticipated downtime) and, in turn, optimize performance of production operations. • Ensure the protection of Corning's Intellectual Property (IAP). • Deploy Corning's talent management programs within the department to effectively attract, develop, and maintain manufacturing talent, ensures that all salaried employees have training and development plans. • Establish and define expectations for manufacturing competencies within the department. • Approve all process/equipment changes and experimental plans involving the production process, including process improvement, new product trial runs, equipment/tooling redesign, raw material, batch and/or component changes. Responsibilities • Audit and evaluate Contract Manufacturers’ production lines and quality systems for production readiness. • Audit peripheral suppliers and vendors to verify compliance with VDA 6.3 standards. • Lead all communications on root cause analysis and supplier corrective actions. • Conduct on-site quality inspections, audits, and maintain control plans to ensure critical features are controlled throughout the assembly/production processes. • Identify opportunities for quality control enhancements and implement new methods accordingly. • Support the new supplier selection process by conducting audits as required. • Collaborate with supplier leadership to enhance their capabilities for better product launches and improved quality performance. • Coordinate calibration activities, liaising with external vendors to ensure all test and measurement equipment is calibrated before use on the manufacturing floor. • Collaborate with external and supplier quality labs to ensure product conformance before leaving manufacturing sites. • Identify potential risks related to the supply chain, track supplier performance, and implement preventive actions to mitigate risks. • Assist in assessing and selecting new suppliers based on their capabilities, quality systems, and performance history. • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams to identify failure modes and manage countermeasures. • Monitor design performance and address knowledge gaps in NPI (New Product Introduction) designs.
