【About the Team】
The Commerce & Marketing (C&M) team is at the forefront of driving growth and optimizing the user experience on Taiwan Ichiba. We are a team of passionate and talented data scientists, engineers, and marketers who work collaboratively to leverage data to understand user behavior, improve search relevance, personalize recommendations, and optimize marketing campaigns. The Search Data Science team tackles challenging problems such as organic search, semantic search, multi-channel retrieval, and deep ranking systems. The team also leverages state-of-the-art frameworks such as transformer-based models and large language models (LLMs) to train and deploy efficient and accurate models.
【Overall Position Details】
This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring data scientist to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced e-commerce environment. As a Data Scientist Intern, you will contribute to developing state-of-the-art machine learning models and strategies to improve e-commerce conversion through search and recommendation algorithm improvements for Taiwan Ichiba. You should be able to work independently, propose solutions, and contribute meaningfully to impactful projects. **This internship will involve close collaboration with, and reporting to, the AI team located in our Singapore Regional Headquarters.**
【Your responsibilities will be as follows:】
. Understand user intent based on search queries and personalized preferences.
.Develop and implement machine learning models for search retrieval and ranking.
.Analyze large datasets of user behavior, product information, and marketing campaign performance to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
.Participate in and conduct A/B tests to identify winning variants.
.Contribute to the successful deployment of models and features in production.
.Collaborate with Rakuten's cross-functional product managers, engineers, and statisticians to grow Rakuten's presence in the Taiwan marketplace.
.Regularly communicate progress and findings to the AI team in Singapore.
【Qualifications】
. Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
. Experience in the e-commerce industry is a plus.
. Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
. Familiarity with machine learning libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar.
. Knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar.
. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
. Passion for technology and solving challenging problems.
. A strong background in Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning, big data processing (Hadoop, Spark), and data analytics
【Internship Details】
. This is a 3-month paid internship position, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and business needs.
. Starting July 2025.
. The interns will be based in the Taipei, Taiwan office.
