Scope of Position: The Optical Engineer for Fiber Array Units will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of Fiber Array Units (FAUs) for optical communication and photonic systems. The role requires expertise in optical design, fiber alignment, optical testing, with a focus on optimizing performance, reliability, and manufacturability. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, manufacturing teams, and product managers, to deliver high-performance optical solutions. Day to Day Responsibilities: • Design and Development: Design and optimize Fiber Array Units (FAUs) to ensure high precision and low insertion loss for optical systems; Develop optical alignment strategies and processes for multi-fiber arrays; Create detailed specifications for FAU components, including fiber types, coatings, and end-face geometries. • Prototyping and Testing: Build prototypes of FAUs and conduct rigorous testing to evaluate optical performance (e.g., alignment accuracy, insertion loss, return loss, crosstalk); Utilize optical simulation and modeling tools to validate designs; Analyze test data to identify and resolve design issues. • Manufacturing and Assembly Support: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to develop scalable assembly processes for FAUs, including splicing, polishing, and fiber alignment; Define and implement quality control protocols for FAU production; Work on automation techniques for high-volume manufacturing of FAUs. • Research and Innovation: Stay updated on the latest advancements in fiber optic technologies, materials, and fabrication techniques; Explore new materials and methods to improve the performance and reliability of FAUs; Contribute to the development of next-generation optical systems and photonic devices. • Collaboration: Work closely with photonics engineers, system architects, and packaging teams to integrate FAUs into optical modules; Provide technical support to customers and partners regarding FAU-related issues; Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, and user manuals. • Compliance and Standards: Ensure FAU designs meet industry standards (e.g., Telcordia, IEC) and customer-specific requirements; Maintain compliance with environmental and safety regulations for optical components. Required Skills: • Strong understanding of optical fiber technology, including single-mode and multi-mode fibers. • Experience with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, OpticStudio, Lumerical). • Proficiency in optical alignment, coupling, and testing of fiber optics • Knowledge of fiber splicing, polishing, and end-face preparation. • Familiarity with optical test equipment such as Optical Spectrum Analyzers (OSAs), Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), and interferometers. • Experience with cleanroom fabrication and assembly processes is an advantage. • Fluent in English for communication, presentation, and documentation Desired Skills: • Familiarity with photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and their integration with FAUs. • Knowledge of thermal management and reliability testing for optical components. • Experience with automated optical alignment and packaging systems.

Role Summary We’re looking for a senior-level Optical Hardware Engineer with deep experience in camera systems and optical design to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for driving the development and validation of critical optical components—ranging from lenses and sensors to IR LEDs, light guides, and PIR systems. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams and factories to bridge design and mass production, ensuring that our optical systems not only meet performance targets but are manufacturable at scale. If you enjoy hands-on problem-solving, working across the product lifecycle, and turning design ideas into high-performing products, this is the role for you. Responsibilities (What he/she will do after joining UI) -Evaluate camera lens and sensor combinations; develop new test cases and verification methods. -Lead RFQ and validation processes for new lenses, lens holders, and optical modules. -Design and test IR LED illumination systems and custom light guide structures. -Develop PIR sensing and calibration approaches for motion detection products. -Collaborate with the camera factory and NPI teams to improve manufacturing flow and integrate new optical components. -Support the design and setup of optical test stations on production lines. -Drive the LED calibration process to ensure color and brightness uniformity. -Contribute to optical R&D efforts, including new technology scouting and feasibility studies. -Work with cross-functional teams (EE, ME, FW, process) to debug and optimize optical performance across development and production stages. -Lead optical hardware validation for full systems, including imaging, illumination, and sensor modules. Requirement (Must-Haves) -Strong understanding of surveillance camera functionality and optical system performance. -Practical knowledge of lens modules and how to evaluate their image quality and performance. -Familiarity with Imatest or similar image test tools; understands the principles behind test metrics (MTF, distortion, chroma, etc.). -Experience with optical simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, TracePro) for modeling and simulation. -Hands-on experience in lens or illumination system design. -Experience working with camera module production processes and factory validation flows. -Comfortable collaborating with manufacturing teams to improve yield and optical alignment. -Basic scripting skills (e.g., Python or MATLAB) for test automation and data analysis. -Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, EE, or related field. -6+ years of experience testing or validating optical components or systems. Preferred Qualifications -Familiar with PIR design, IR LED arrays, and thermal/range optimization. -Involvement in camera product development cycles (EVT/DVT/PVT) and mass production ramp-up. -Experience with Active Alignment (AA) processes and fine-tuning camera module assembly. -Background in LED calibration systems and test fixture design for optical components. 10+ years of relevant industry experience.

Requirements: • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Imaging Science, or a related field. • 10+ years of experience in optical system design, testing, and manufacturing, preferably for imaging products (e.g., drones, cameras, mobile devices, AR/VR). • Deep understanding of lens design, camera module integration, optical tolerancing, and sensor alignment. • Hands-on experience with Zemax, Code V, LightTools, or equivalent optical simulation tools. • Familiar with MTF, SFR, distortion, chromatic aberration, and other key imaging metrics. • Experience working with CMs or ODMs in Asia on high-precision optical assemblies. • Strong understanding of optical manufacturing processes, from prototype to mass production. • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug optical and image quality issues in a fast-paced environment. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across disciplines and time zones. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience in drone, aerospace, or consumer electronics industries involving embedded camera systems. • Familiarity with ISP tuning, HDR, autofocus systems, and camera module testing. • Knowledge of laser systems, structured light, or multispectral imaging is a plus.
